The Police Headquarters is headed by the Director General of Police who is assisted by Deputy Inspector General of Police( Range), Asstt. Inspector General of Police( Personnel), Asst. Inspector General of Police (Provisions), Staff Officer to DGP Ladakh who in turn are assisted by Dy.Ss.P. to deal with various facets of administration, logistics, establishment and policy planning like:
1. Recruitment, Promotions, Discipline, Internal economy and Administration in the force, Enquiries, Complaints and Appeals.
2. Police purchases.
3. Buildings and Constructions.
4. Training- The Police Hqrs. also is charged with the responsibility of Training Induction, on-job and specialized training is imparted to Police Personnel to inculcate professional competence and acquire specialized skills required to handle any kind of situation.
The Executive Police has two District Police Offices(DPO). DPO Leh is headed by an officer of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police and similarly DPO Kargil is also headed by an officer of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police. Both the SSP's are assisted by their respective ASP's and DySP's. Police Stations Leh, Nyoma, Nubra and Women Police Station comes under DPO Leh. Similarly Police Stations Kargil, Drass and Zangskar comes under DPO Kargil.In Police Administration, District Police plays a pivotal role. All the laws and rules passed by the Legislature are executed by police. District Police Organisation is responsible for the effective maintenance of law and order and control of crime.
The Armed Police is headed by a Commandant who is of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police. For effective supervision, the senior superintendent is assisted by Deputy commandant, DySP, Quarter master and Adjutant managing their respective COY's and handling the administrative work of batallion. The Armed Police is also utilized for manning static guards on protected places, vital installations, vulnerable areas besides being reserve force to meet any eventuality. The battalion was raised in the year 2016 vide Government Order No 540 of 2016 dated 07.09.2016 however the office was established at Leh in the year 2019.
Ladakh Traffic Police Wing was created after the separation of Ladakh from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Traffic Police Ladakh is an independent wing headed by Superintendent of Police Traffic Ladakh with its Headquarters at Kargil. Immediately after the creation of Traffic Police Wing in UT Ladakh,it took over the responsibility of traffic management in the twin districts of Leh and Kargil besides handling strategic locations like Meenamarg/Drass, Phyang and Upshi.
CID is the intelligence wing of Ladakh Police functioning as an eyes ears of the Government. CID Ladakh is headed by an officer of the rank of Senior Suprintendent of Police who is assisted by two officers of the rank of Deputy Suprintendent of Police who supervise Leh and Kargil District respectively. CID also conducts verification related to character, service, passport, threat perception, non-involvement certificate etc. In the year 2019, 2526 passport varification cases and 300 service related verification cases were finalized.
The Telecom Dpartment is headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police who in turn is assisted by a Suprintendent of Police who is Supervisory Officer of Telecom Ladakh. Ladakh Police Telecom wing has been an integral part of the UT Ladakh Police/Civil administration ever since it came into existance and has been playing a pivotal role in terms of providing secure and seamless communication network coverage with special focus on rural and remote areas of Ladakh region. Ladakh Police Telecomunication wing is also known as technical wing of the police department with wireless telecommunication stations actively linked with district telecom HQR'S 24*7.The basic duty and responsibility of this wing is to provide flawless communication during day to day policing, situation reports, weather reports and road connectivity status to the higher authorities of Civil and Police administration in the districts round the clock from all Police Stations, Police Posts and PCP’s like PCP Serchu/Spang at Himachal border and PCP Menamarg/Gumree at J&K border, etc.
The UTDRF is supervised by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police who in turn is assisted by a Suprintendent of Police who is Supervisory Officer of UTDRF, Headquarterd at Leh. The purpose of creating the UTDRF wing is to build safer and diaster resilient UT through prevention, mitigation and preparedness. After the re-organisation of erstwhile J&K State into two Union Territories, the SDRF components deployed at Leh and Kargil district were re-designated as UTDRF. The two UTDRF components depolyed at Leh and Kargil district are headed by an officer of the rank DySP's and both components are supervised by an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police.
The Security wing is headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police who in turn is assisted by a Suprintendent of Police, Supervissory Officer Headquarterd at Leh. The Security wing has the charter of providing security to protected persons, vital installations and to secure venues during sensitive events. The role of the wing has assumed more significance since Ladakh is an important strategic location as it shares borders with China in the east and Pakistan in the west. Ladakh is also a prominant tourist destination witnessing frequent visit of VVIP's and VIP's. The wing is mostly deployed with various categorized political and administrative protected persones for providing physical security to these Protected Persons and thier immediate family members.
